ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. — An Onslow County man is facing multiple drug-related charges following his arrest by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, according to arrest warrants.
James Dorsey Cothren, 38, was taken into custody on Monday, Dec. 22, and charged with two counts of felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer, and felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premises.
According to warrants, a deputy was investigating a suspicious person at a closed business when Cothren allegedly resisted and obstructed the investigation by providing a false name. Authorities say the deputy was performing official duties at the time.
Warrants further allege Cothren was found with drug paraphernalia, including smoking devices, multiple straws, lighters, and a glass pipe, intended for the use of controlled substances other than marijuana.
Investigators say Cothren possessed cocaine and fentanyl, both classified as Schedule II controlled substances under North Carolina law. Authorities also allege he possessed fentanyl inside the Onslow County Detention Center after being asked if he had any narcotics before entering the jail.
Cothren is currently being held without bond at the Onslow County Jail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, Dec. 22.
