SARASOTA, Fla. — James Cook, accused of armed robbery at a Sarasota Walgreens, has been arrested after an extensive search. Authorities say Cook entered the Walgreens at 1225 S. Tamiami Trail on Thursday night at approximately 10:45 p.m., armed with a handgun.
Cook demanded money from employees and held both staff members and a customer at gunpoint before making off with cash and prescription pills from the pharmacy.
The Sarasota Police Department (SPD), working with several local agencies including the North Port Police Department, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, and other teams, immediately began searching for Cook. After hours of investigation and coordination, Cook was located and taken into custody at 1 p.m. the following day.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the robbery. Cook is facing charges related to armed robbery and theft.
