BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Schenectady man who admitted to taking money for fencing projects he never completed in Saratoga and Warren Counties has been sentenced to probation.

James Butler, 32, the owner of the fencing company “Trust a Fence,” was sentenced Monday to five years of probation after pleading guilty on February 24.

Prosecutors say Butler accepted over $15,000 from clients in both counties during the summer and fall of 2023 for fence installations he never started. He also failed to return the money.

Authorities encourage homeowners to thoroughly vet contractors and report suspected fraud immediately.
