Stockton, CA — A 72-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a deadly shooting over the Labor Day weekend in Stockton, according to police.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, near the intersection of West Hazelton Avenue and South Harrison Street. They found a 60-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite life-saving efforts, the victim died at a nearby hospital. His name has not yet been released.
Stockton police homicide detectives quickly launched an investigation and were able to identify a suspect. Around 5 p.m. the same day, officers from the Gang Street Enforcement Team, along with San Joaquin County sheriff’s deputies, located the suspect’s vehicle and made a traffic stop.
The suspect, identified as James Allen, 72, was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of homicide and narcotics violations.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and additional information may be released as it develops.
