PAXTON, Ill. (WCIA) — A 22-year-old Champaign man, Jamarh E. Gray, has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Fulton Park in Paxton that occurred in March, marking the third arrest in the case.
According to reports from WCIA’s media partners at the Ford County Chronicle, Gray was taken into custody around 10 a.m. Monday at the Champaign County Courthouse on a charge of armed robbery. He was later transported to the Ford County Jail in Paxton.
Gray’s arrest follows those of 23-year-old Devin L. Starkey of Champaign and 22-year-old Steffonce J. Moffitt of Urbana, who were detained on March 19. Both face charges of armed robbery with a firearm—a Class X felony—and theft ($500–$10,000), a Class 3 felony. Moffitt is also charged with driving with a suspended license.
Court records show pretrial hearings are scheduled for Dec. 1 for Starkey and Dec. 8 for Moffitt.
The original incident occurred around 5:09 p.m. on March 15 at Fulton Park on Paxton’s southeast side. The victim told police they arranged to sell two pairs of shoes online and met Starkey at the park. During the exchange, Starkey allegedly displayed a pistol, stealing both pairs of shoes, the victim’s own shoes, and $120 in cash.
Police say Moffitt demanded money from passengers inside the victim’s vehicle before the suspects fled south on South Vermilion Street in a gray 2012 Hyundai Sonata.
Authorities continue to investigate the case.
