CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — One man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 42-year-old Alvin J. Parker in December 2024. Parker’s body was found by Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies on December 10, 2024, in northwest Champaign, specifically in the 1500 block of Dobbins Drive.
Following an investigation, authorities identified Jamal Carter of Springfield as a person of interest. In late January, Springfield police conducted a vehicle stop, which yielded evidence linking Carter to the fatal shooting, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
On Thursday, CCSO deputies, working with U.S. marshals, arrested Carter in Springfield on murder charges related to Parker’s death. He was transported to the Champaign County Jail, where he remains in custody. The investigation continues as authorities work toward justice for the victim.
