A saree businessman turned drug dealer, Jamal Akhtar Ansari (39), was arrested by Delhi police for allegedly supplying charas from Himachal Pradesh to multiple states, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Goa. Police recovered 2.76 kg of contraband from his possession.

Ansari, a resident of Thane, Maharashtra, was apprehended near Akshardham in East Delhi. According to police, he employed several tactics to evade law enforcement, such as staying temporarily in Delhi, traveling to Himachal Pradesh, halting in Chandigarh while returning, avoiding private buses, and traveling by train under a false identity.

Investigations revealed that although Ansari was originally engaged in the saree business, he was drawn to the high profits of drug trafficking and began supplying charas on an inter-state basis. Police said the seized consignment was intended for a Mumbai-based drug supplier, and Ansari was reportedly planning to distribute it during the New Year period.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the drugs and identify other members of the syndicate.
