BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) – A detention officer with the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office has been fired and arrested following an internal investigation into a property theft complaint.

The investigation began on May 8, after a former detainee who had been held on May 4 reported a discrepancy in their personal property returned upon release. The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office reviewed jail surveillance footage and identified Officer Jalissa Washington as a possible suspect in the incident.

On May 9, Washington was suspended with pay while the investigation continued. By May 13, officials concluded that she had violated department standards and abused the trust placed in her position.

Washington was terminated from her role and subsequently arrested. She has been charged with theft by taking and booked into the Bryan County Jail.
