A Fort Myers man is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities rescued a severely injured dog from his care.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, officers responded to the 2100 block of Franklin Street following a report of a dog suffering from an embedded collar. Upon arrival, officers found Jalane Williams with his large mastiff, Amber, whose neck showed signs of severe injury.
Lee County Animal Control was immediately called to the scene and transported Amber for emergency veterinary treatment.
Detectives allege that Williams left Amber chained to a tree for an extended period, causing the collar to embed into her skin and result in serious injuries. Authorities established probable cause and arrested Williams, who has since been booked into the Lee County Jail.
Amber remains in the care of Lee County Animal Control and is receiving continued medical attention.
