Jajpur Police have arrested Kamal Mallik, a local leader, on charges of killing a teenage boy, Santanu Das, following an altercation over delayed chow mein at a stall. The incident occurred on February 9 near Gobindpur village in Jajpur district.
Santanu, 14, died from injuries sustained during an assault that took place after his father, Sukadev, went to Anil Kumar Mallik’s stall to inquire about a delayed order. Sukadev alleged that after waiting for 30 minutes, he was beaten up by Anil Kumar Mallik. Santanu, upon learning about the assault, confronted Mallik, and local leader Kamal Mallik, along with others, reportedly thrashed the boy with iron rods, critically injuring him.
Both father and son were taken to the Jajpur district headquarters hospital, but as Santanu’s condition worsened, he was shifted to a private hospital in Cuttack, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night.
Police arrested Kamal Mallik from a hiding spot in Jajpur. However, other individuals involved in the assault remain at large.
