Police have arrested two individuals, including a minor, for their involvement in an online video-call fraud that led to the extortion of nearly Rs4.45 lakh from a victim.

The main accused, identified as Jaid Mohammad alias Jaid Khan (19) from Rajasthan, along with a minor accomplice, allegedly ran a cyber racket targeting victims through social media platforms.

According to District SP Hariram Shankar, the duo blackmailed a victim after befriending him on Facebook and tricking him into a video call. During the call, they created a morphed nude video and threatened to upload it online unless the victim paid money. Under pressure, the victim transferred Rs4.45 lakh in multiple installments.

Acting on the complaint, a special team led by CEN Inspector Ramachandra Naik and PSI Harish traced the accused to Madgaon railway station in Goa, where they were arrested.

Police recovered Rs2 lakh in cash and five mobile phones used in the crime. Other accused are still absconding, and investigations are ongoing.

Authorities urge the public to stay cautious while engaging in online conversations with strangers, especially via video calls.
