A horrifying double murder took place in Garhi Kanaura village, under the Alambagh police station in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. On July 2, police arrested Jagdeep for stabbing his mother-in-law Asha Devi and father-in-law Anant Ram to death.
The attack reportedly stemmed from a long-standing marital dispute between Jagdeep and his wife Poonam, who had been married for nearly 10 years. Since April, Poonam and her children had been living with her parents in Alambagh after leaving Jagdeep due to repeated domestic abuse.
On the night of the incident, around 9 pm, Jagdeep visited his in-laws’ home to persuade Poonam to return. A heated argument ensued, and Jagdeep pulled out a knife from his bag, fatally stabbing Anant Ram and Asha Devi. Both were rushed to the hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Poonam told media that Jagdeep had a history of alcoholism and abuse. She suspected he was intoxicated during the attack. Anant Ram’s daughter-in-law, Monika, confirmed Jagdeep had mentally and physically harassed Poonam since their marriage and had threatened her life multiple times over the phone.
Police have arrested Jagdeep and are continuing their investigation into the case.
