A 26-year-old man, Jagan Sahoo, was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing his father, Karunakar Sahoo (57), following a violent altercation at their home in Laxminagar village, Jajpur district.
According to police, the confrontation occurred on Sunday night during a heated argument over family matters. Jagan reportedly struck his father on the head with a wooden plank. Karunakar was rushed to the Community Health Centre in Jajpur Road, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police recovered a blood-stained wooden plank from the scene. A case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered for patricide, said Upendra Pradhan, IIC of Jajpur Road police station.
Jagan was produced before the local court on Monday. His bail application was rejected, and he was remanded to judicial custody. Investigations into the events leading to the fatal incident are ongoing.
