Bargarh: Police on Monday arrested 19-year-old Jaga Meher and detained a minor for allegedly stealing 390 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh and Rs 40,000 cash from their kin’s house in Jamla village, under Padampur police limits.

The burglary took place on Sunday evening while the complainant’s family had visited the Nrusinghanath temple. When they returned, the valuables were missing, prompting house owner Chanchal Meher to file a complaint late that night.

Police sources stated that the accused used knowledge of the family’s movements to commit the theft. Acting on a tip-off, officers apprehended the duo at Barpali railway station as they attempted to flee to Tamil Nadu.

SP (Bargarh) Prahalad Sahai Meena confirmed that all stolen gold jewellery and Rs 40,000 cash have been recovered, and the bike used in the burglary has also been seized. Investigation continues to determine if they were involved in other crimes in the area.
