An alleged drug mule is set to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after being re-arrested for failing to attend a scheduled court hearing.

Jacques Schoeman, 36, was taken back into custody on February 25, 2026, after a warrant of arrest was issued when he did not appear in court on January 20.

According to Hawks spokesperson Siyabulela Vukubi, members of the Western Cape Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) re-arrested Schoeman following the court-issued warrant.

Schoeman was initially arrested in October 2025 at Cape Town International Airport. Authorities had received intelligence that a South African citizen was being used as a drug mule on a flight arriving from Doha.

Officers intercepted and searched Schoeman, allegedly discovering cocaine valued at more than R2 million concealed in his luggage.

He first appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on October 10, 2025, and was granted bail of R20,000 on October 16, 2025. The case was postponed to January 20, 2026, but Schoeman failed to appear, leading to his re-arrest.

He is expected to return to court as proceedings continue.
