Jacob Turner Arrested for Austin Kerbey Lane Homicide

Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Parking Lot Killing

by Amelia Crawford

Austin, TX — A man was arrested Tuesday night following a fatal assault in the parking lot of a Kerbey Lane restaurant in South Austin.

At approximately 10:16 p.m. on July 1, Austin Police Department officers responded to a call at 3003 S. Lamar Blvd. Upon arrival, they found 23-year-old Mark Barbosa on the ground. Despite efforts by Austin-Travis County EMS, Barbosa was pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m.

Investigators say Barbosa was at the lot to pick up his girlfriend when an altercation broke out with 21-year-old Jacob Turner, who was there with his girlfriend and a friend. The confrontation escalated, leading Turner to physically assault Barbosa, causing him to fall near a blue Nissan.

Turner, his friend, and girlfriend then left the scene in the vehicle. The cause of death was blunt force trauma, and authorities ruled it a homicide.

Turner was booked into Travis County Jail and charged with first-degree murder.
