LOS LUNAS, N.M. — Authorities have arrested 31-year-old Jacob LeHair for allegedly starting the Cotton 1 Fire, part of the larger Desert Willow Complex Fire in Los Lunas.
LeHair faces one count of arson and one count of criminal damage to property. Following evidence gathered from interviews and surveillance footage, police issued a warrant for his arrest, and he subsequently turned himself in.
The Cotton 1 Fire and the nearby Cotton 2 Fire together form the Desert Willow Complex. Firefighters have achieved 70% containment of Cotton 1 and 40% containment of Cotton 2.
As residents return to their neighborhoods, some homes remain coated in pink fire retardant. The fires have destroyed 11 homes and injured 12 firefighters.
