Jacob L. Maxey Sentenced to Nine Years for Attempted Armed Robbery in Spencer County

19-year-old pleaded guilty after March 2025 incident involving stolen firearm

SPENCER COUNTY, Ind. — A 19-year-old Tell City man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for attempted armed robbery and theft following a March incident at the Rockport High Rise Apartments.

According to the Spencer County Prosecutor’s Office, Jacob L. Maxey was sentenced after pleading guilty to charges stemming from an attempted armed robbery on March 26, 2025.

The investigation began when authorities discovered a bullet hole at the apartment complex. Surveillance footage and witness statements helped police identify Maxey.

During the attempted robbery, Maxey allegedly pointed a gun at the victim’s face and tried to steal a firearm. When the victim escaped, Maxey fired several shots. The weapon Maxey wielded had been reported stolen just days before the incident.

Maxey’s nine-year sentence includes:

Three years in the Indiana Department of Correction

Three years on work release

Three years of probation
