WELD COUNTY, Colo. — A correctional facility employee has been arrested and charged after authorities say he engaged in sexual conduct with an inmate.
Jacob Golden was taken into custody Tuesday following an investigation by the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. He allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 27-year-old female inmate at Weld County Jail between July 12 and July 14 while on duty.
The incident was reported by another inmate to a detention center deputy, prompting swift action. Golden was arrested before his next scheduled shift and now faces two felony counts of sexual conduct in a correctional facility by an employee.
He remains in custody after posting a $20,000 cash surety bond Wednesday afternoon.
“People expect to be able to trust law enforcement. The actions of Golden are unacceptable and disturbing to the conscience,” said the sheriff’s office, which emphasized its commitment to a thorough investigation.
Golden has been placed on unpaid administrative leave as the criminal investigation proceeds, to be followed by an internal review.
