Jacob Cooper Arrested After Police Chase in LaPorte County

Man Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase Ends in LaPorte County

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WSBT) — A 34-year-old man from Kalamazoo, Jacob Cooper, is behind bars following a police pursuit that ended early Sunday morning.

According to authorities, officers attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Lincoln Way near 1st and J Streets in LaPorte County. However, the driver refused to pull over, leading police on a chase.

The pursuit continued until the vehicle crashed into a fence at the LaPorte County Highway Department, but the suspect kept driving. The chase ended in Michigan City near 31 Lakeshore Drive, where Cooper abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police deployed K9 Simba, who located and apprehended Cooper by biting him in the center of the back.

Cooper was arrested and faces multiple charges, including:

Resisting law enforcement

Operating while intoxicated

Leaving the scene of an accident

Being a wanted person

He is currently being held at the LaPorte County Jail.
