A man who subjected his partner to five years of verbal and physical abuse—often in front of their children—has been jailed.
Jack Woodman, 33, of Tennis Court Road, Kingswood, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison at Bristol Crown Court on Monday, April 14. He was convicted in February 2025 of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and two counts of actual bodily harm (ABH).
Woodman’s victim, Crystal Taffs, 28, endured years of escalating violence between 2017 and 2022. His assaults began with verbal outbursts and hair-pulling, eventually progressing to punching and more serious violence.
In November 2018, Woodman broke Ms Taffs’ jaw in two places before leaving her in agony to go out drinking with friends. She later required surgery to repair the injury.
On June 19, 2022, after losing money at a casino, Woodman attacked Ms Taffs again—this time striking her in the face with a phone and glasses case while hurling insults and pouring a drink over her. He told her he “hoped he’d broken her jaw again.”
Their two young children witnessed many of these violent episodes.
Fearing for her safety and her children’s, Ms Taffs bravely fled the home and later reported the abuse to the police, leading to Woodman’s arrest and conviction.
Woodman’s imprisonment marks a step toward justice for Ms Taffs, whose courage in coming forward brought an end to a prolonged cycle of domestic violence.
