SR Nagar Police have arrested J Sai Ram Reddy (27), a habitual cybercrime offender, for allegedly cheating several people by posing as a cybercrime officer and extorting money through fear and intimidation.
The suspect, a bike-taxi rider from Karimnagar, is believed to be involved in at least 44 cyber fraud cases across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
According to authorities, Sai Ram created fake female profiles on social media to befriend victims, primarily men. After gaining their trust, he allegedly called them pretending to be a cybercrime official, threatened them with false cases involving obscene online activity, and extorted money through digital payment methods. Victims were sometimes instructed to reset their mobile phones to erase evidence.
In the latest case, a student reportedly lost nearly Rs 97,000 through multiple digital transactions. The suspect was traced and arrested following a complaint filed via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
During interrogation, Sai Ram confessed to committing similar offences using multiple SIM cards, mobile phones, and bank accounts, including accounts belonging to unsuspecting shopkeepers. Police continue to investigate whether others were involved and are tracing additional victims.
