SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Police have arrested one of the two men suspected of a violent stabbing that left a brother and sister injured during an early morning beach outing in Santa Monica.
The attack occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday on the 1700 block of Ocean Front Walk when a group of friends, including the 28-year-old sister and her 24-year-old brother, visited the beach. According to the sister, who requested anonymity, they noticed two men acting suspiciously nearby, riding scooters and drinking.
The situation turned hostile when the men approached and began verbally harassing the group. As tensions escalated, the attackers pulled out pocket knives and lunged at the siblings. The sister was stabbed four times—in her head, back, and underarm—while her brother sustained five stab wounds to the stomach and back.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital. The sister has since been released and is recovering at home, but her brother remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition and is expected to remain there for at least a week.
On Monday, April 21, police arrested 20-year-old Ivan Angel Plancarte of San Gabriel. He has been charged with attempted murder and is being held on $1 million bail.
The second suspect remains at large. Authorities describe him as a Hispanic male with a thin build, last seen wearing a grey sweater and a blue bandana or face mask.
Santa Monica Police urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
