In a breakthrough operation, the Itanagar Capital Police successfully apprehended a habitual thief and recovered stolen property worth over Rs 9 lakh. The suspect, 22-year-old Tadar Niba from Raj Bhawan, was arrested in connection with a theft at the residence of Shri Arif Rasul, a Personal Secretary to the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, which occurred on the morning of November 17, 2024.
On that day, while the complainant and his spouse were out for their morning walk, the thief broke into their home located in P Sector, Itanagar. The stolen items included high-value goods such as a GoPro camera, a Samsung tablet, gold ornaments, a diamond bracelet, Rs 25,000 in cash, and two mobile phones.
The crime was swiftly reported, and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In response, a dedicated police team, led by SDPO Itanagar Shri Kengo Dirchi and under the supervision of SP Itanagar, Rohit Rajbir Singh, launched a thorough investigation.
Using a combination of human intelligence and diligent follow-ups, the police identified Niba as the main suspect. After being questioned, Niba confessed to the crime and cooperated by leading the authorities to the recovery of the stolen items, including the GoPro camera and Samsung tablet. Additional stolen goods, such as more tablets and mobile phones, were also found across various locations within the Itanagar Capital Region.
Niba is currently in police remand for four days as investigations continue. SP Rohit Rajbir Singh praised the team for their tireless work in solving the case, and announced that rewards would be given to those involved in the investigation.
