In a major breakthrough under Operation Dawn 2.0, Itanagar Police apprehended a drug supplier within the high-security Civil Secretariat, seizing 44.36 grams of suspected heroin. The dramatic arrest occurred at around 2:40 PM following a tip-off from a vigilant Secretariat staff member who alerted authorities about a suspected drug peddler confined in a bathroom on the 3rd floor of Block No. 3.
Security personnel intercepted the suspect, who was allegedly attempting to sell narcotics inside the premises. Vicky Chetry (32), a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) member in the Horticulture Department, was identified as the accused. Chetry, originally from Borgolai Milan Nagar, Tinsukia district, Assam, resides in Zero Point, Itanagar.
The police operation was led by SDPO Shri Kengo Dirchi, assisted by Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, SI Kenter Tacha, and the PS ready party, under the supervision of SP Shri Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS.
In the presence of independent witnesses, including First Class Magistrate Oli Koyu, Dy. GA Bapir Megu, and SPA Punyo Obing, a personal search of Vicky Chetry revealed the heroin stash.
The swift and coordinated operation marks another significant success in the ongoing fight against narcotics in the region.
