In a major breakthrough against cybercrime, Nagaon Sadar Police have arrested two individuals allegedly running a sophisticated cyber fraud network. The arrests mark a significant success in the district’s ongoing crackdown on digital crime.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a rapid operation in the Chalchali area of Nagaon, apprehending Ismina Ahmed and Asadul Islam. Reports suggest the duo operated a cybercrime racket with suspected links to individuals outside Assam.

During the raid, authorities seized 358 SIM cards, 8 mobile phones, and 1 laptop, all believed to have been used in fraudulent activities. The volume of SIM cards points to a well-organized operation, potentially involving identity theft, phishing scams, and financial fraud.

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects may be part of a broader interstate network exploiting digital platforms for illegal gains. Police believe the SIM cards were used to create fake identities and conduct deceptive transactions, possibly targeting individuals across state lines.

Additional SP (Crime) Jayanta Baruah said, “This is a major blow to cybercriminals operating in the region. We are intensifying efforts to trace the wider network and ensure such crimes are eradicated from society.”

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious digital activity. Investigations are ongoing, with coordination between Assam police and cybercrime units in other states to uncover the full extent of the network.
