Local Mother Arrested After 1-Year-Old Overdoses on Drugs in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police report that a quick-thinking housekeeper saved a 1-year-old child who overdosed on drugs at a local motel.
Authorities say the incident occurred last week at the Days Inn near Candelaria and I-25. The child’s mother, Isha Garcia, ran into the hallway urgently seeking Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal drug, which the housekeeper provided.
The baby was rushed to UNM Hospital, where medical staff confirmed an opioid overdose. During a search of Garcia’s motel room, police found smoking pipes and fentanyl pills on the mattress.
Prosecutors are currently seeking to keep Garcia in custody until her trial due to the serious nature of the case.
