Miami-Dade traffic homicide detectives arrested 36-year-old Isaleb Anofils on Wednesday for a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of an 82-year-old pedestrian last month.

According to the sheriff’s office, Anofils was driving his 2020 Nissan Maxima recklessly and at high speed southbound on Northwest Seventh Avenue near Northwest 115th Street around 3:40 a.m. on June 29 when he struck Austin Noel, who was crossing the street.

The collision threw Noel approximately 150 feet, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics. Following the crash, Anofils lost control of his vehicle, hitting a raised median before stopping at Northwest Seventh Avenue and 112th Street. He then fled the scene without calling 911, according to police reports.

Authorities arrested Anofils at 411 N. Miami Ave. and booked him at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident causing death and vehicular homicide. His bond was set at $27,500.

In 2021, Anofils was sentenced to four years in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy, bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft alongside an accomplice named Donyell Garland. The pair defrauded several banks between January and April 2018, using spoofing apps and websites to steal personal information and carry out 287 fraudulent ATM transactions, netting over $151,000 from 47 victims.

Anofils is currently serving a five-year supervised release for those offenses. The latest charges add to his criminal record as the investigation continues.
