FAIRBANKS, Alaska — A 20-year-old military spouse working as a caregiver was charged Saturday with fraud and theft after allegedly forging checks and misusing a disabled client’s credit card.
Isabella Hernandez-Patino was employed by TLC Care Services in Fairbanks when she began caring for a woman with mobility issues, according to charging documents. The woman, unable to shop on her own, entrusted Hernandez-Patino with her credit card for grocery purchases only.
However, the woman later noticed suspicious charges on her credit card totaling $1,915.01, with transactions made in Fairbanks and at Eielson Air Force Base.
Investigators say that Hernandez-Patino used the card to purchase a firearm — a Palmetto State Armory Dagger Compact 9mm pistol — from Alaska Ammo for $627.52.
Alaska State Troopers have confirmed the purchases were unauthorized and have charged Hernandez-Patino with fraud.
She is expected to face court proceedings in the coming days.
