In two coordinated anti-drug operations, Chennai police arrested nine individuals, including a college student and five men from Tripura, for possession and distribution of methamphetamine and heroin.
The first operation was led by the Chennai metropolitan special task force, which apprehended Isaac Robert, a local resident, with 2 grams of methamphetamine. His interrogation led to the arrest of Ritesh, a third-year student from a private college in Maduravoyal.
Further investigation revealed that the meth was procured from Karan and Azharuddin of Mannadi. Though police raided their residence and recovered 7 grams of methamphetamine, the duo managed to evade arrest and are currently absconding.
In a separate raid conducted by Taramani police on Wednesday, five men from Tripura were caught with 2 grams of heroin. The arrested individuals were:
Anor Hossain (27)
Ajay Kumar (30)
Riman Debarma (18)
Mohammed Jasim Mia (23)
Najrul Hossain (22)
Police investigations revealed that the accused had brought heroin from Tripura and were distributing it across Chennai, indicating a wider interstate narcotics network.
Authorities are now working to track down remaining members of the drug supply chain and strengthen monitoring at entry points to prevent trafficking.
