LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 25-year-old man, Isaac Chirinos, was arrested twice within 24 hours in Lincoln, Nebraska, after allegedly stealing two separate vehicles, according to local police.
The first incident occurred just before 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday near Mackovicka Physical Therapy at 48th Street and Leighton Avenue. A victim had left his vehicle with the windows down and keys hidden under the floor mat. When he returned an hour later, the car was missing.
While the victim was searching for the vehicle, Chirinos reportedly arrived at the scene driving the stolen car. He exited the vehicle and casually walked away, police said.
Chirinos was soon located at a nearby home and arrested on suspicion of unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle. He was booked into the Lancaster County Jail and released at approximately 11:30 p.m. the same night.
Just over an hour later, around 12:45 a.m., officers responded to a second stolen vehicle report at the Stay Inn near Southwest 20th and West O streets. A man reported that his Chevy Impala was missing after his wife dropped him off at work earlier that day.
By 2 a.m., the vehicle unexpectedly showed up at the victim’s workplace—five miles from where it had been taken. Chirinos was allegedly behind the wheel again. When confronted, he reportedly tossed the car keys on the ground and walked away.
Police later found Chirinos near 33rd Street and Cornhusker Highway and arrested him again—this time on suspicion of felony theft.
Authorities have not released further information on bond or upcoming court dates. Both stolen vehicles were recovered.
