Irvin Peel Pleads Guilty to DWAI by Drugs in Delaware County

Stamford man sentenced to conditional discharge for impaired driving

by Sophia Bennett

A Stamford resident, Irvin Peel, has pleaded guilty to a Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI) by Drugs charge in Delaware County. Peel was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge following the plea.

As part of his sentence, Peel is required to attend a Victim Impact Panel, have his driver’s license revoked for a minimum of six months, and enroll in the Impaired Driver’s Program, which he must complete.

The charge stemmed from a March traffic stop in Stamford when Peel’s vehicle was pulled over due to malfunctioning tail lights and license plate lights. The officer detected a strong smell of marijuana, and subsequent Standardized Field Sobriety Tests indicated signs of impairment.

Peel admitted to smoking marijuana approximately 30 minutes before being stopped by law enforcement.
