Thane Police have dismantled a drug trafficking network, arresting two individuals and seizing over 2.18 kilograms of mephedrone (MD), a banned synthetic drug, valued at more than Rs4 crore in separate operations.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amar Singh Jadhav confirmed the arrests and seizure. The Anti-Narcotics Cell nabbed Irfan Ammanulah Shaikh (36), a food delivery executive from Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, near Shilphata on Sunday. He was caught carrying 1.5 kg of MD, estimated to be worth Rs3 crore.
Investigators believe Shaikh used his job as a delivery agent to mask narcotics distribution across Thane and Mumbai. Police have booked him under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and are now analyzing his call records and delivery history to track potential handlers, drug consignments, and a broader distribution network.
In a separate bust, Crime Branch Unit 1 arrested Shahrukh Sattar Mewasi alias Rizwan (28), a native of Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, near Kharigaon Toll Naka in Kalwa on July 24, 2025. A search of his vehicle revealed 662 grams of mephedrone, valued at Rs92.68 lakh.
Rizwan was booked under the NDPS Act at Kalwa police station and remains in custody till July 30. Police are probing his Madhya Pradesh connections, suspecting a larger interstate drug supply network.
Authorities stated that both cases are interlinked, with shared suppliers and distribution routes possibly extending across state borders. The Thane crime branch continues to investigate storage hubs, handlers, and financial trails associated with this high-stakes drug syndicate.
