The Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested a 32-year-old man, Irfan alias Romeo Hanif Chaniya, from his residence on Shivpuran Street, Raiya Road, on Saturday, in a drug bust that uncovered 13.260 grams of mephedrone (MD), a synthetic drug, valued at Rs1.32 lakh.

Police recovered the contraband in a vacuum-packed packet concealed in Irfan’s track pants during the raid. Forensic testing confirmed the substance to be mephedrone, a banned stimulant under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In addition to the drugs, authorities seized materials worth an additional Rs23,000, bringing the total value of the seizure to Rs1.55 lakh.

An FIR has been registered at the Gandhigram police station against Irfan and others. According to officials, Irfan has a prior record for similar drug offenses.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the supply chain of the narcotics and identify potential buyers in the Rajkot area.
