In a significant border security operation, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Siddharthnagar police arrested Kamran Chakmeh, an Iranian national, on Thursday at the Kakrahwa border in Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh, as he attempted to cross into Nepal without valid documents.
Chakmeh was found in possession of a forged Aadhaar card under the name Ravi Kumar, showing a Lucknow address. Authorities have registered a case against him under the Foreigners Act and other relevant sections. The suspect was subsequently sent to jail for further legal action.
According to Siddharthnagar SP Prachi Singh, Kamran had been living illegally in India for nearly 10 years. His illegal stay began after he came in contact with an individual named Amit Singh during a business trip to India. When his Indian visa expired, he briefly stayed in Nepal before allegedly being helped by Amit to re-enter India. Kamran had been residing in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area until recently, when Amit was arrested by Delhi police in a drug smuggling case.
With the arrest of his contact, Kamran reportedly attempted to return to Iran through Nepal. However, he was intercepted by authorities at the Siddharthnagar border.
During the arrest, police recovered several items, including Kamran’s Iranian passport, the fake Aadhaar card, a railway ticket from Delhi to Gorakhpur, Rs 13,000 in cash, two ATM cards, five SIM cards from various companies, and a mobile phone.
The investigation is ongoing to uncover more details about Kamran’s activities and his illegal stay in India.
