Erode, Tamil Nadu – Two members of an alleged Iranian theft gang were arrested by the Erode Police on Saturday for stealing a two-sovereign gold chain from a jewellery shop in Guruvareddiyur village.
The accused, identified as Afsar (34) and Harib Hussain (27), reportedly entered the jewellery store—owned by a local businessman named Murugan—on August 19, posing as customers interested in purchasing jewellery.
While pretending to browse items, the duo managed to steal a two-sovereign gold chain and leave the premises unnoticed. After reviewing CCTV footage and gathering clues, police tracked and apprehended the suspects.
The case is part of a broader investigation into transnational theft rings, with several Iranian nationals allegedly involved in similar crimes across South India.
Both accused are now in police custody, and further investigation is underway to determine their involvement in other such incidents.
