by Ananya Mehta

Panaji police arrested Abrar Beg, an Iran national, on Monday in connection with a series of thefts at jewelry stores across Goa. Investigations have revealed that the recent thefts were carried out by an interstate Irani gang.

SP North Goa, Akshat Kaushal, confirmed that Panaji town police successfully cracked two separate cases involving thefts at local jewelry stores. In both incidents, the thieves posed as customers and, under the pretext of purchasing gold and diamond jewelry, managed to steal two gold chains and two diamond necklaces, all valued at Rs 12 lakh.

During the investigation, authorities gathered intelligence from various sources, leading them to suspect Abrar Beg and other gang members were involved in these crimes. It was also found that the gang members were operating out of Kudachi-Raibag, Belagavi, in Karnataka.

The investigation is ongoing as police work to track down additional members of the gang and recover further stolen goods.
