A 37-year-old interstate thief, Panchakshari Sangayya Swami, has been arrested by Bengaluru police for committing a theft at a house in Maruthinagar, Madiwala. The accused, who hails from Solapur, Maharashtra, has a criminal history spanning across multiple states, with over 150 cases of robbery and theft. His past includes notable crimes in Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka.

Swami’s criminal career began at the age of 15, and by 2009, he was a professional thief. Notably, he once gifted a Rs 22 lakh aquarium to a Bollywood actress and spent lavishly on her, sometimes up to Rs 15 lakh per visit. He also constructed a palatial house worth Rs 3 crore for his bar dancer girlfriend in Kolkata using proceeds from his crimes.

The latest theft, committed on January 9, involved the breaking into a house in Madiwala. Swami stole gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 12.25 lakh and melted them into gold biscuits using a fire gun, which was later recovered by the police. The arrest was made possible by CCTV footage and technical evidence.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda confirmed that Swami had been involved in multiple robberies and thefts after his release from a Maharashtra jail in October last year. Despite his lavish lifestyle funded by crime, Swami’s actions have finally caught up with him as the police continue their investigation into his extensive criminal past.
