Delhi Police arrested three men, including the kingpin of an interstate burglary gang, following a fierce gunfight near DLF Mall in Sector 20 on Tuesday. The main accused, Ashraf alias Ajay (34) from Mainpuri, was shot in the leg during the encounter. His two accomplices, Arif and Salman alias Asif, residents of Etah, were also detained.

DCP Yamuna Prasad stated that officers attempted to stop a Brezza without a number plate during a routine check. The vehicle tried to flee but was intercepted near the mall’s multi-level parking area, prompting the suspects to open fire. Police returned fire, resulting in Ashraf’s injury and the arrest of the trio.

Interrogations revealed the gang’s involvement in numerous burglaries across Delhi, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. The police recovered stolen items, cash worth Rs 45,000, a pistol, and cartridges from the accused.

In a separate incident around 11 pm the same day, Sector 49 police chased a speeding motorcycle in Sector 76. The rider, Sushil Kumar alias Tera from Hapur, opened fire while trying to escape but was injured in retaliatory fire. He is wanted in nine cases across various police stations.

Another encounter occurred the following day near Sector-54’s elevated road when a man on a scooty, identified as Ravi from Mayur Vihar, tried to flee after being signaled to stop. After falling off his vehicle, he fired at police officers and was shot in the leg.

The police continue to investigate the cases as all three accused remain in custody.
