A police officer in Dakshina Kannada district has been taken into custody following allegations of forging official records to expedite a passport application for a local resident, Shakti Das.
The case came to light after officials noticed inconsistencies in Das’ initial passport application submitted in February 2025, and further clarifications in June 2025 raised additional concerns. Subsequent investigations revealed that Inspector Pradeep allegedly fabricated a verification report to circumvent standard scrutiny procedures.
Authorities discovered these irregularities during a review on December 19, which also suggested possible attempts to destroy evidence. Legal proceedings have been initiated, with charges including forgery filed against both Das and Pradeep. Inspector Pradeep remains in custody pending trial, while efforts continue to locate Shakti Das.
Police officials have emphasized strict action against attempts to manipulate official documentation and warned citizens against relying on shortcuts for government procedures.
