A serious theft occurred at the Silghat police outpost under Kaliabor police station in Nagaon district, with an INSAS rifle belonging to the 11th Assam Police Battalion reported stolen.

The rifle was taken two days ago, but the incident came to light only on Thursday, raising concerns about security at the police outpost. Following the theft, authorities launched a massive search operation in the Silghat area, conducting raids and investigations to trace the weapon.

Police have arrested a youth, Gautam Das, in connection with the incident. However, the stolen rifle remains unrecovered at the time of reporting.

The case has sparked questions regarding the ability of authorities to secure sensitive equipment, even within their own premises. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the theft occurred and to recover the rifle.
