A major online gaming app scam has been uncovered in Guwahati, with authorities successfully dismantling a criminal syndicate involved in siphoning off crores of rupees through fraudulent digital transactions. The crackdown, which followed intelligence inputs, led to several arrests and the seizure of critical evidence.
The investigation began when Chandmari police arrested Injamul Haque, a suspect from Barpeta. During questioning, Haque disclosed the existence of a larger network operating out of a hotel in Garchuk. Two cybercriminals from Chhattisgarh, Ratna Prakash and Muralidhar Sumith Pillai, were reportedly running the fraudulent operations.
Haque is said to have played a central role in supplying multiple bank accounts to the cybercriminals. These accounts were used to launder crores of rupees, allegedly earned through online gaming apps. The illicit activity raised alarms, prompting swift action from law enforcement.
During the raid, the police seized a variety of incriminating items, including ATM and debit cards, passbooks, cheque books, airline tickets, and other documents connected to the scam. Investigators believe the racket had been running for months, targeting unsuspecting individuals and facilitating the movement of vast sums of money.
Further investigation revealed that Haque was employed at an office on Zoo Road and had been involved in facilitating account transactions at Commerce Point. Here, he is said to have sold accounts in bulk to fraudsters.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the full scope of the syndicate and identify additional individuals connected to this widespread financial fraud.
