In a significant operation targeting illegal online betting, Indore Police’s Crime Branch arrested 27-year-old Abhay Sharma for running a betting racket during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The arrest came after a raid at his flat in a residential colony in Sector E, where police recovered several mobile phones and three laptops used in the betting operation.

According to police officials, Sharma admitted to running the illegal betting operation from his rented flat for several years. The bets were placed using personal login credentials, and the system was managed via smartphones and laptops. In response, an FIR has been filed against Sharma under the Gambling Act and related sections of the IT Act.

The Crime Branch has raised concerns that the racket might involve more individuals and is conducting further searches. The Technical Department is analyzing the seized electronic devices to gather additional evidence and expand the investigation.

This is the second online betting racket to be busted in Indore within the last two weeks. On April 27, a man was arrested in connection with online betting activities during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final match between India and New Zealand.
