SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Fox News) — Harpreet Singh, one of India’s most wanted fugitives due to his alleged involvement in terrorist activities, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in California. Singh is accused of planning and coordinating numerous grenade attacks targeting police officials in India.
Singh, a member of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a terrorist organization based in Pakistan, entered the U.S. illegally on January 27, 2022, through Arizona. After being arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents, he was placed in removal proceedings but released into the country. He was later apprehended by ICE agents on April 16 in Sacramento, California, and is now in ICE custody pending further immigration proceedings.
According to U.S. officials, Singh’s arrest highlights concerns over the Biden administration’s immigration policies, particularly the release of individuals with criminal backgrounds into U.S. communities. Tricia McLaughlin, the Homeland Security assistant secretary for public affairs, expressed shock that a wanted terrorist was allowed entry and release.
Singh is wanted in India for his role in terrorist activities associated with the BKI, including funding terrorist operations, recruiting operatives, and orchestrating grenade attacks against law enforcement. His actions are believed to have instilled fear and violence within Indian law enforcement agencies. Indian intelligence agencies also suspect him of coordinating with Harwinder Singh Rinda, a notorious figure within BKI, further solidifying his role in transnational terror networks.
