GREENVILLE, NC – A Greenville woman has been arrested and charged with multiple fraud-related offenses after allegedly stealing another person’s identity and using their EBT card.
India Janell Lawson, 35, was arrested on August 26, 2025, on the 1200 block of Holden Drive, according to the Greenville Police Department. She faces charges of financial card theft, identity theft, and obtaining property by false pretense.
The alleged crimes took place two days earlier, on Sunday, August 24, when Lawson is accused of fraudulently using another individual’s Social Security number to conduct financial transactions.
According to arrest warrants, Lawson also changed the PIN number on a stolen EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card, using it at Walmart to purchase $188.32 worth of merchandise.
Following her arrest, Lawson was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center and later released on bond.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed whether additional charges may be filed.
