The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Ifeanyi Mba in connection with an alleged ₦10 million land fraud.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, EFCC said the arrest followed a petition in which the complainant alleged paying Mba for a plot of land located at Plot 677 Owo/Premier Layout, Ogui Nike, only to discover that the property was being developed by unknown persons.
According to the petitioner, when he contacted Mba about the development, Mba reportedly claimed the property was government-owned. Subsequent attempts to recover the funds were unsuccessful as Mba allegedly became unreachable.
Preliminary investigations by the agency revealed that there is no Plot 677 Owo/Premier within government-acquired areas, noting that Owo and Premier are distinct layouts. EFCC said Mba would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
This arrest follows other high-profile prosecutions by the Enugu Zonal Directorate. In January, EFCC investigations led to the recovery of ₦1.28 billion from Sujimoto Luxury Construction Ltd.. The funds were allegedly diverted from payments meant for constructing Smart Green Schools in Enugu State. The recovered funds were returned to the state government at the EFCC Enugu Zonal Office.
