A Coralville resident has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $12,000 from a client at Superior Care, an in-home adult care service.
Ieasha Miller, 33, previously employed at Superior Care, was taken into custody by the Iowa City Police Department and charged with abuse of a dependent adult and first-degree theft.
According to the ICPD criminal complaint, Miller had access to the victim’s bank accounts during her visits on Aug. 24 and Aug. 31, 2023. Police executed a search warrant at her residence and discovered paperwork confirming 35 unauthorized transactions between Dec. 1, 2023, and Feb. 3, 2025. The stolen funds were reportedly used to pay rent, utility bills, and personal expenses.
The victim learned of the identity fraud on Feb. 24, 2025, discovering payments made to Nest Property Management, Geico, U.S. Cellular, Mediacom, Mid-American Energy, and Santander Consumer USA. Nest Property Management told police that payments were redirected to Miller to cover her rent.
Superior Care confirmed Miller worked for the company from July 19, 2023, to Feb. 20, 2024, while the victim had been a client from March 24, 2022, to Jan. 18, 2024. CEO Susan Young said Miller had been previously fired after misusing grocery funds for a personal gift card.
Young expressed concern about broader issues in assisted care facilities, noting that misconduct is often handled internally without legal action. “If somebody’s taking advantage, they should have prison time,” she said.
Under Iowa law, first-degree theft is a class C felony with a maximum sentence of 10 years, and exploiting a dependent adult for monetary gain over $100 is a class D felony carrying up to five years.
