In a major breakthrough, Padubidri police arrested two notorious interstate burglars, Ibrahim Kalandar and Mohammad Riyaz alias Kadappa Riyaz, in connection with a string of house thefts reported in the limits of Padubidri, Kota, and Kundapur police stations in Udupi district.
Ibrahim Kalandar, a resident of Kalayi House, Koila village, Puttur taluk, and Mohammad Riyaz, from Urmichal Bekoor, Kumbla, Kasaragod, were apprehended in Sastha Nagar, Mogral Puttur. Police seized Rs24,000 in cash and a car used for the thefts. The duo was produced before the Udupi court and remanded to judicial custody.
On June 22, burglars broke into the house of Ganesh Prasad Shetty in Padebettu village and stole Rs1.2 lakh in cash and a gold chain worth Rs25,000. The investigation, led by ASP Harsha Priyamvada under the guidance of SP Hariram Shankar and other senior officers, resulted in the swift arrests.
Ibrahim Kalandar is a habitual offender with a long criminal record, including temple and house thefts, robberies, and bank heists across Karnataka and Kerala.
Police suspect the involvement of the accused in multiple unsolved thefts and are continuing the investigation to trace further links.
