MINNETONKA, MN — Ian Wagner, 26, was arrested near the UnitedHealthcare headquarters in Minnetonka after allegedly threatening violence. During his court hearing on Wednesday, Wagner shouted, “Power, money, and corruption,” prompting the judge to place him in custody without bond, citing a “threat to public safety.”
Wagner, who was wearing a flak jacket designed to prevent self-harm, was reportedly under mental health distress. His mother, Cheryl Wagner, expressed concern outside the courtroom, stating that her son suffers from mental illness and would not receive the help he needs in jail. “It’s heartbreaking. I feel helpless,” she said, accompanied by her husband, Levi.
The incident stems from multiple attempts by Hennepin County officials to arrest Wagner since he violated his probation on April 3. Wagner also tampered with his electronic home monitoring device, which, while not equipped with GPS, triggers alerts when the individual moves outside a certain range.
Authorities revealed that Wagner, having fled from police earlier in the week, traveled to his grandparents’ home, retrieved a gun, and went to the UnitedHealthcare building in Minnetonka. Police arrested him after he posed a potential threat. The investigation continues as authorities evaluate the nature of his outburst and its connection to his current legal situation.
