Hyderabad Police have arrested a 16-year-old girl, her boyfriend, and his younger brother for the murder of her mother, Satla Anjali (39), a folk singer involved with Telangana’s government cultural programs. The incident occurred at their home in New LB Nagar, Shapurnagar, under Jeedimetla Police Station limits.
The accused daughter was reportedly upset because her mother opposed her relationship with Shiva Kumar (19), an intermediate second-year student and DJ operator from Nalgonda, whom she met on Instagram. The couple had been in a relationship for around eight months.
Earlier in June, the daughter stayed with Shiva for several days, which angered Anjali. After police intervened and returned the girl home, tensions escalated. On June 23, the daughter allegedly called Shiva and his 17-year-old brother to her home. Together, they strangled Anjali with a nylon chunni.
The daughter had previously reported abuse by her mother and had even expressed a desire to live in a child welfare home during her school years. After the murder, the elder daughter locked the house and threatened her younger sister, but the younger sibling escaped and informed their aunt.
Police confirmed the crime was premeditated and stemmed from the mother’s disapproval of the relationship. The investigation is ongoing.
